Can the Iridium Power gap be adjusted? Can I use any spark plug cleaners with Iridium Power?

Do not adjust the spark plug gap. Use of a spark plug cleaner for short periods is acceptable if low pressure is used. Iridium Power spark plug gap is already set at the optimum distance. If the electrode is damaged by gap adjustment or cleaning, the spark plugs will not perform to their best.

Does the engine need to be specially set when fitting Iridium Power?

No. The plugs can just replace the ones you take out. The Iridium Power spark plug itself has a low required voltage and high ignitability and is able to draw out the power of an engine. The superb performance of Iridium Power spark plugs is obtained merely by installing them in your vehicle. And, of course, there is no need for special tuning.

How difficult is it to replace TPMS sensors?

Because of their location inside your tire, there is simply no way to access and replace a TPMS sensor without the use of special equipment to remove, re-install and re-balance the tire. For this reason, we recommend you have a professional replace your sensors.

How do I select the correct heat range when fitting Iridium Power to my vehicle?

In ordinary cars, use a spark plug with the same heat range as a normal spark plug. In highly tuned vehicles, select a heat range to suit the tuning level of the engine. (Ordinarily, the heat range of a highly tuned engine tends to be colder.)

What design features make the Iridium Power stand out from competitors?

Iridium is 6x harder and 8x stronger than platinum, this allows DENSO engineers to shrink the center electrode tip to only 0.4mm, the world's smallest , and still maintain durability. This tiny electrode reduces the required voltage for the plug to fire resulting in improved firing performance. DENSO uses a patented Iridium alloy formula which employs over 90% Iridium, and small amounts of another material called Rhodium, which is added to even further reduce oxidation.

Also, a U-Groove has been cut inside the ground electrode to maintain the large volume of space required to form the nucleus of a flame. While still keeping the required voltage low, this technology enables excellent firing performance without increasing the spark gap.

The tip of the ground electrode has been cut to form a taper. This greatly improves firing performance by reducing "quenching," or the absorption of spark energy by the electrode.

At first, the use of Iridium as an electrode material was impossible due to its extreme hardness and high melting point. Now, DENSO has developed a patented 360° laser welding process to firmly affix the Iridium material to the center electrode in a bond so reliable the electrode resists wear even in the harshest conditions.

What design features make the Iridium Racing stand out from competitors?

DENSO's patented Iridium alloy, with an extremely high melting point, is used to create the world's smallest center electrode, thus allowing the voltage requirements to be significantly reduced, and greatly improving ignition performance. DENSO's Iridium alloy achieves its particular characteristics through a unique material structure and production method which bonds the alloy in the most reliable patented process.

DENSO's patented 360° laser welding process to permanently affix the Iridium center electrode tip creates a bond so reliable the electrode resists wear even in the harshest racing conditions.

Platinum has a higher melting point than the nickel alloys used in conventional spark plug ground electrodes. DENSO's 100% Platinum ground electrode reduces wear and problems such as melting the ground electrode under severe race conditions. In addition, the platinum alloy used in the 0.8mm ground electrode is produced without the need for fusing or bending, which increases durability and virtually eliminates residual stress.

A small gap has been developed around the tip of the center electrode and insulator. If the plug develops carbon build up and bridging occurs, electrical discharges in this section burn away any carbon deposits and clean the insulator. This technology has been patented by DENSO (Japanese patent No. 2727558)

For racing vehicles, starting problems caused by carbon deposits and bridged plugs before the start of a race can be fatal. To prevent this, a film of silicone oil is applied to the insulator. The water-repellent properties of the silicone oil keep the insulator surface free from moisture and carbon to prevent any losses in plug insulating performance.

A bevel on the side of the housing has been increased in size to improve resistance to abnormal combustion. Furthermore, they also make possible the discharge of residual gases and entry of fresh gases; improve self-cleaning performance, which helps reduce plug fouling.

Through DENSO's involvement in motorsports, we have engineered a new insulator that is 20% stronger than insulators previously used, achieving unsurpassed reliability.

What does it mean when my TPMS indicator illuminates?

When the TPMS light comes on and stays on, it means that at least one of your tires is at a low pressure level. If the light flashes for approximately 60 to 90 seconds when you start your car and remains illuminated, it means that your TPMS system isn't functioning properly and you should take your vehicle to a service center for an inspection.
